The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber Warning for heavy rains, with the Western Province among the areas expected to experience heavy showers over the next 24 hours.
The warning, issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 7.00 a.m. today (24), will remain in effect until 7.00 a.m. tomorrow (25).
Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Southern provinces.
The Met. Department said heavy showers exceeding 100mm are likely at some locations in these areas.
The general public in the affected provinces, particularly those in areas prone to flooding and landslides, has been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as weather conditions develop.
