El Niño impact affects over 81,000 people across seven districts – DMC

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) says seven districts across the country have been affected by dry weather conditions caused by the El Niño phenomenon.

According to the DMC, 23 Divisional Secretariat divisions across these seven districts have been affected, impacting 81,865 people from 25,628 families.

The DMC has also taken steps to distribute drinking water to 20 Divisional Secretariat divisions affected by the situation.Accordingly, drinking water is being distributed to 72,153 people from 23,048 families.

The highest volume of drinking water has been distributed in the Monaragala District, where supplies have been provided to 33,023 people from 10,264 families across seven Divisional Secretariat divisions.

Meanwhile, drinking water has been distributed to 28,523 people from 9,547 families across eight Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Batticaloa District.

In the Ampara District, drinking water has been provided to 7,882 people from 2,537 affected families across two Divisional Secretariat divisions.
