The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is weakening into a depression, but its influence on Sri Lanka is expected to continue bringing heavy showers and strong winds to several parts of the country today (25), according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers exceeding 75mm are likely at some areas, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-Western provinces, where showers or thundershowers are expected at times, the Met. Department noted.
The Met. Department said the impact of the weather system on Sri Lanka is expected to gradually decrease from today as the depression weakens.
Meanwhile, strong winds of around 30–40 kmph are possible at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, North Central and North Western provinces and in the Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale districts.
The general public has been urged to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may occur during thunderstorms.
