The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for strong winds and rough seas in the sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar, from Mullaitivu to Trincomalee, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar, from Mullaitivu to Trincomalee, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times, with strong gusty winds of up to 50–60 kmph.
Wave heights may increase to approximately 2.0–3.0 metres in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Matara, it said. Accordingly, naval and fishing communities are advised to remain vigilant in this regard.
