The Intertropical Convergence Zone, where winds from the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere converge, is affecting the island’s weather, says the Department of Meteorology.

Due to its influence, the current rainy conditions of the island are expected to be enhanced, it said.

Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m.

Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.

Showers may occur in coastal areas of Western, Southern and Eastern provinces and in Mannar and Jaffna districts during the morning too.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island, particularly during evening or night.

Winds will be south-westerly or variable in direction and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.

The sea areas around the island will be slight.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
