IMF chief and President Ranil discuss ongoing reforms and debt restructuring efforts

The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva has held a meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe to address crucial economic issues, the President’s Media Division reported.

In their discussion, they focused on the ongoing reforms in the financial sector and the significant advancements in debt restructuring efforts, the PMD further reported.

The meeting took place on Wednesday (Sept. 20), on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The IMF chief and the Sri Lankan leader have delved into the ongoing financial sector reforms and the substantial progress made in debt restructuring initiatives.

Georgieva commended the Sri Lankan government for its effective measures in curbing inflation and nurturing an environment conducive for business growth, as well as the flourishing tourism industry.

Additionally, she expressed her satisfaction with the government’s commitment to enhancing the overall economic landscape.
