Udaya Gammanpila files writ petition challenging court order on Satyagraha at Viharamahadevi Park

Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila has filed a writ petition before the Court of Appeal seeking an order to quash a directive issued by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court concerning a satyagraha held opposite Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo, demanding the release of Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, who is serving a prison sentence.

The petition seeks a writ order invalidating the directive issued by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court in connection with the protest.

The Officer-in-Charge of the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station, the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General, the Colombo Magistrate and several others have been named as respondents in the petition.
