A 34-year-old businessman has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) after police allegedly found nearly 4 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’) worth more than Rs. 80 million in his luggage.
The arrest was made by officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau at the Katunayake Airport.
Police said the suspect, a resident of Ratmalana, had travelled from Oman to Doha, Qatar, before arriving in Sri Lanka at around 7:30 p.m. yesterday (29).
The suspected narcotics, weighing approximately 3 kilograms and 994 grams, had been divided into 10 packages and allegedly concealed inside biscuit and chocolate packets in the suspect’s luggage, according to police.
The suspect was identified and arrested within the airport premises based on information received by officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today (30).
