High Commission of Pakistan Facilitates Landmark MoU Signing Between ISSI and SASSRI to Strengthen Bilateral Academic and Strategic Cooperation

In a significant move to deepen academic research and strategic cooperation between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and the South Asia Sustainability and Security Research Institute (SASSRI).

The virtual signing ceremony took place in the presence of H.E. Major General (R) Dr. Nayyar Naseer, HI (M), PhD, High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Sri Lanka. The Deputy Head of Mission Mr Christy Ruban was present in ISSI, Islamabad.

The MoU establishes a framework for collaborative research, joint academic initiatives, exchange of scholars, and shared analysis on regional sustainability, peace, and security dynamics in South Asia.

Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner H.E. Major General (R) Dr. Nayyar Naseer highlighted the significance of deep-rooted historical and diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He emphasized that institutional partnerships between leading research centers will play a pivotal role in addressing contemporary regional challenges through intellectual discourse and research-driven policy input.

The ceremony commenced with opening remarks by H.E. Ambassador Moin ul Haque, Executive Director of  ISSI, and Professor Maneesha S. Wanasinghe-Pasqual, Executive Director of SASSRI. Both institutes expressed their commitment to leveraging this partnership for impactful research and regular policy dialogues.

Following the formal signing, representatives from both organizations engaged in an interactive discussion outlining prospective joint projects, public seminars and publication collaborations.

The High Commission of Pakistan reaffirms its commitment to fostering stronger institutional, academic, and socio-economic linkages between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
