The discussion is set to take place at the Office of the Opposition Leader, with former Presidents Ranil Wickremesinghe and Maithripala Sirisena expected to participate. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has also been invited to attend the meeting.

The General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Parliamentarian Ranjith Madduma Bandara said the discussion was aimed at addressing concerns regarding the independence of the judiciary and the protection of the rule of law.

He stated that the opposition had decided to hold the meeting in response to what he described as actions by the government that could affect democratic institutions.
