A delegation led by Yan Jizhun, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial People’s Congress in China, met with the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic Resources, and Marine Resources, Ramalingam Chandrasekara, yesterday.
During a cordial discussion with the Minister, the Vice Chairman explained the assistance that Hainan Province could offer for Sri Lanka’s development and the procedures for implementing such aid. He also highlighted investment opportunities in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, he mentioned that attention is being given to enhancing tourism between the Province and Sri Lanka.
In response, the Minister recalled the long-standing friendship between Sri Lanka and China. He thanked the officials of the Hainan Provincial People’s Congress for the support extended for the country’s growth. The Minister expressed gratitude for the assistance China has provided to Sri Lanka thus far and stated that Sri Lanka anticipates China’s continued support for its future development efforts.
Opportunities for advancing relations between the two countries through fisheries, tourism, cultural exchange programs, and new economic cooperation were also focused on during the meeting.
The delegation also extended an invitation to the Minister to participate in the China International Consumer Products Expo to be held in Hainan in 2026. The Minister accepted the invitation and offered his compliments and best wishes for the Exhibition.
Attending the meeting were the Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries, P.K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa, the Director of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, S.J. Kahawatte, Ministry officials, and several representatives of the Chinese Hainan Provincial People’s Congress.
